What is Cyber Essentials?
Cyber Essentials is a government endorsed strategy developed to ensure greater security when conducting business online. This world leading scheme provides a mechanism for companies and organisations of all sizes to become certified, protecting themselves against common online security threats. From October 2014, government requires all suppliers bidding for contracts involving the handling of sensitive information to be certified.
Why should I get Cyber Essentials?
Maintaining a high level of cyber security is paramount to maintaining business functionality and is key to protecting customers and user’s sensitive information from hackers. 45% of small businesses and 66% of medium/large businesses reported a cyber breach or attack in the past 12 months. Overall, nearly half of all businesses (46%) experienced a cyber-attack or breach in the past year, causing thousands of pounds worth of costs and disruption to everyday operations.
Cyber Essentials is designed by government to guard against common cyber attacks, protect from viruses and malware, demonstrate internet security and help secure the supply chain.
Being certified reassures your customers that you take cyber security seriously and helps attract new business.
There are two levels of Cyber Essentials certification available to your organisation: Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus.
This includes a self-assessment questionnaire (SAQ) and an external vulnerability scan that verifies your security status.
Cyber Essentials Plus
This includes the assessments from Cyber essentials plus additional internal scans and an on-site assessment.
